Introduction

      The Center for Cross-Cultural Studies

      The Center for Cross-Cultural Studies aims to contribute to further understanding of cultures by studying and comparing various cultures of the world including languages and literatures of the East and the West. To achieve this purpose, various projects are being carried out.

      The Center has published an academic journal, “Cross-Cultural Studies” working on its own field research on comparative cultures, and issued a series of books with the results of the study on the relevant subject. The Center is holding academic conferences, group workshops, lectures and seminars to strengthen its research capabilities. The Center carries out research projects commissioned by Kyung Hee University and other external institutions and is actively collaborating with foreign scholars and research institutions.

        • Article 2 of “Regulations on Establishment and Operation of Affiliated Research Institutes” Chapter 6 of Kyung Hee University Regulations; established upon the suggestion of professors of College of Foreign Language and Literature, the recommendation of the dean of the college, deliberation of Academic Research Operation Committee and finally the approval of head of Research Division.
      • Purpose of establishment

        The Center aims to contribute to the exploration of a new world of cultures and strengthen research capabilities in humanities and social sciences by studying and comparing various cultures of the world including languages and literatures of the East and the West

      • Major activities
        • Publish four issues of “Cross-Cultural Studies” a year, listed on the KCI of National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) (since 1994).
        • Issue a series of books on comparative culture (a total of 18 books until March 2019)
        • Host domestic and international academic conferences
        • Hold academic research presentations, small-group research meetings, special lectures and seminars
        • Support future generation of researchers (reading sessions of undergraduate and graduate students)
        • Cultivate new young researchers: hired seven full-time researchers at the Center
        • Conduct research and development projects of governmental institutions and domestic and international research institutions and industry
          - Perform tasks of general collaborated research program and basic research support program of NRF
          - NRF’s academic journal support program
          - NRF’s academic conference support program
          - Implement research projects commissioned by National Assembly Secretariat, Ministry of Unification, Educational Broadcasting System, National Institute for Lifelong Education, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, etc.
        • Engage in collaborative projects with local governments: “College for Dream of Gyeonggi”, a collaborative project organized by Gyeonggi Province Office of Education and College of Foreign Language and Literature of Kyung Hee University

        • November 2018 President Park Jung-won inaugurated
