BOOK TALK: The World of Middle Voice

비교문화연구소 북토크: 『중동태의 세계』로 관계론 철학을 말하다

The Center for Cross-Cultural Studies (CCS) at Kyung Hee University is pleased to announce an upcoming book talk event with renowned Japanese philosopher Kokubun Koichiro (University of Tokyo). Born in 1974, Kokubun has long been recognized as one of Japan's leading philosophers and public intellectuals. His works showcase his engagement with real-world issues through a philosophical lens.

Kokubun's latest book published in Korean, "The World of Middle Voice," (2019) explores the grammatical concept of the middle voice, which (doesn’t) exists between active and passive voices. Through his analysis, Kokubun challenges conventional notions of human agency, free will, and responsibility, presenting a thought-provoking perspective on the nature of human action and the fundamental relationality of being. The book has garnered significant attention, earning the top spot in the 2018 The Kinokuniya Humanities Books Award and the prestigious 16th Kobayashi Hideo Prize.

We believe this will be an opportunity to directly engage with Professor Kokubun, who is at the forefront of contemporary Japanese philosophy, while experiencing a new perspective on human subjectivity and the world through the fascinating linguistic phenomenon of the middle voice. The event will feature a presentation by the Author, followed by a conversation, and a Q&A session with the audience. 

The "BOOK TALK: The World of Middle Voice" event will be held on April 27, 2024, from 16:00 to 17:40 at Widang Hall (313), Yonsei University Seoul Campus.

경희대학교 비교문화연구소에서 반가운 소식을 전해드립니다!

우리 연구소는 오는 4월 27일, 일본을 대표하는 철학자이자 지식인인 동경대학교 대학원 종합문화연구과 고쿠분 고이치로 선생님을 모시고 북토크 행사를 개최합니다. 고쿠분 선생님은 『들뢰즈 제대로 읽기』(2013), 『인간은 언제부터 지루해했을까』(2014), 『다가올 민주주의』(2016) 등의 저작을 통해 철학적 통찰력으로 현실 문제에 접근하는 독보적인 행보를 보여주고 계십니다.

2019년 한국어로 출간된 고쿠분 선생님의 저작 『중동태의 세계』는 능동태와 수동태 사이에 존재하(지 않)는 문법 개념인 중동태를 탐구합니다. 중동태 분석을 통해 인간 행위, 자유 의지, 책임에 대한 기존 관념에 의문을 제기하며, 인간 행위의 본질과 존재의 근원적 관계성에 대한 흥미로운 시각을 제시합니다. 이 책은 2018년 기노쿠니야 인문서 대상 1위, 제16회 고바야시 히데오상 수상 등 일본 학계와 독자들로부터 뜨거운 반응을 얻었을 뿐만 아니라 한국 독자들로부터도 많은 관심을 받았습니다. 

이번 행사는 고쿠분 선생님의 발표를 시작으로, 중동태를 둘러싼 철학적, 사회적 주제에 대한 대화 및 Q&A 시간으로 이어질 예정입니다. 중동태라는 매혹적인 언어 현상을 통해 인간 주체성과 세계를 바라보는 새로운 시선을 경험하면서, 일본 현대 철학의 최전선에 계신 고쿠분 선생님과 직접 소통할 기회가 되리라 믿습니다.
